Arizona Repertory Theatre Performs the Musical ‘Company’
Preview shows begin on Nov. 9 and performances run through Dec. 7.
The University of Arizona's Repertory Theatre presents the musical "Company," which opens with preview shows on Nov. 9 and 10. The production is guest directed by Samantha Wyer, with musical supervision by Monte Ralstin.
The Tony award-winning musical revolves around Robert, a 35-year-old single New Yorker, who is relatively content with his life and considers his five married couple friends all the "company" he needs. His friends disagree, upholding wedded bliss while displaying dysfunction in each of their relationships.
Robert is convinced that someone is out there for him, but amid a reluctance to commit to one of three incompatible girlfriends, he wonders if he will ever find the right woman.
Wyer is currently the associate artistic director/education director at Arizona Theatre Company. Her past directing credits for the Arizona Theatre Company include "Betrayal," "The Philadelphia Story," "Noises Off!," "Rumors," "Three Sisters," "The Two Gentlemen of Verona," "Angels in America: Millennium Approaches" and "Arcadia."
Wyer holds a master's degree in directing from the University of Missouri and is a member of the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers.
The UA Repertory Theatre also will offer a pre- and post-show discussion, which are free and open to the public.
The pre-show discussion will take place Nov. 20 at 6:45 p.m. Guest speakers will lead a dialogue that includes behind-the-scenes information about the production. Those interested are advised to check signage in the Tornabene Theatre lobby for locations.
The post-show discussion will be held Nov., 23, immediately after the performance in the Marroney Theatre. Audience members are invited to meet the actors during a question and answer segment facilitated by guest speakers.
"Company" is based on a book by George Furth with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim.
The play contains adult language and themes.
